What is the Pollutant Reduction Plan?
Under the MS4 Program within Pennsylvania, municipalities that discharge to a stream that is impaired (one that is not as healthy as it should be for aquatic life and human use) are required to take steps to reduce nonpoint source pollution from their storm sewer system. The streams within the EDCSC service area (Darby Creek and its tributaries) are designated as impaired. Municipalities within impaired watersheds are required to develop and implement a Pollutant Reduction Plan (PRP) to reduce pollutants of concern. For the Darby Creek watershed the PRP focus is on reducing sediment to and within our waterways. The plan outlines projects known as Stormwater Control Measures (SCM) to reduce the amount of pollutants reaching local waterways. Eight of the EDCSC members have chosen to undertake this process together. The draft plan can be found HERE.
